Why do we find it so hard to write about ourselves?
You know the drill – you psyche yourself up to finally sit down and nail your messaging but nothing flows.
You end up messing about on Instagram or rearranging your knicker drawer instead.
Anything's better than actually sitting down to write about YOU.
Even though you know yourself better than anyone.
You’re not alone.
Writing your brand's messaging and about page is one of the most stressful and awkward things anyone can do and everyone goes through it. (Or they hire someone to do it for them).
Why is it such a nightmare? Because we tell ourselves self-sabotaging stories.
Let's unhook ourselves, shall we?
Belief 1: I'm doing it all wrong
Not true. There's no one way to write your About page. There are templates and best practices to follow but some of the most successful copy is written by those who go with their gut. Start with a massive brain dump – just get it all out. Pick out the words and phrases that most resonate with you and encapsulate the essence of your brand. Then search for a framework that inspires you.
Belief 2: I don't know who my audience is
You can't make everyone love you. Write for your dream client instead. Harvest your emails, testimonials, DMs and social media comments for words and phrases they use and use them in your copy. Speak their language and make it easy for them to connect with you.
Belief 3: Why would anyone want ME?
If you offer a one-to-one service, people are not only looking for how you can help them but also if they can connect with you. You may be one of several similar offerings out there, but no one is doing it the exact way that you are. Don’t forget: your biggest selling point is YOU.
Give me half an hour to see how we can work together.
Book in for a 30-minute chat to see if we’re the right fit. We’ll talk about you and your business and how we can use strategic storytelling – that’s teasing out elements of your skills and experiences in a way that resonates with your dream clients or customers – to shape web copy that captivates, compels and sells.
